Get set to dance around with Vera Blue

- MICHAELA GLASS

AFTER touring the world performing her latest smash hit, Vera Blue is excited to be returning to Lorne for New Year’s Eve.

This is the first time the Aussie singer-songwriter has performed her own set at Falls Festival.

“I’ve come along as a feature before and I remember thinking ‘I can’t wait to do my own set at Falls one day’,” she said.

Vera Blue first captured Australia’s attention when she competed under her own name, Celia Pavey, in the 2013 season of The Voice Australia.

She then revamped her folk roots with a strong electronic influence and launched into the world as Vera Blue.

Since releasing her debut album, The Music, Vera Blue has become an international sensation.

Her collaboration with Illy, entitled Papercuts, reached No.2 on the ARIA singles charts and her single Hold was No.1 on the Spotify Australia Viral Top 50 chart.

Earlier this year she released Rushing Back with Aussie producer Flume.

She has been touring the world performing it with him, including a set at Lollapalooza.

Vera Blue describes her music as energetic, exciting, colourful and emotional.

“We like to have fun and experiment until we find something that sounds like nothing else,” she said.

Despite her international success, Vera Blue is still nervous about performing at Falls Festival.

“I’ll always get nervous … I think that kind of just shows that it means a lot to me and that it’s a really special thing to do,” she said.

Vera Blue said fans should expect a very colourful set, with lots of dancing.

“We’ll change the set up a little bit with a new song and new versions,” she said.

“It’s gonna be really fun!” The set promises to feature lots of high energy songs to keep the audience dancing and jumping around.

“We’ll arrange some of the up songs so they’re even bigger, making the most of the live band to create a big sound with the most energy,” she said.

While she’s here, Vera Blue hopes to catch the sets from Halsey, Cosmos Midnight and PNAU.

If you love Vera Blue and are looking for new music, she suggests Odette and Montaigne. “Those guys are amazing and they’re both working on new music which is exciting,” she said.

Vera Blue is playing in the Grand Theatre from 11pm on Saturday.
