WSL has Morocco on the map

- Four-day surf forecast:

SURFERS always have and always will be looking for new destinations that offer great waves.

It’s simply part of the surfer’s instincts to want to explore the oceans and find new perfect waves and the pay-off in finding such waves is getting to surf them with few others around.

It’s hard to believe that with around 30 million surfers actively into the sport all over the globe that there are any secret secluded locations out there.

But every year, new destinations pop up, along with incredible photos and vision. Before long, these destinations are opened up to the surfing world with accommodation and surf camps to attract tourism from the intrepid surf travel audience.

One such destination that will open eyes this week is Morocco. While it’s been known to have great waves for the past decade, the actual numbers of surf tourists have been relatively small.

But that’s changing and later this week a high-level WSL event attracting around 200 surfers will take place on one of the many perfect right point breaks of this surf-rich coastline.

Other obscure surf destinations that are slowly gaining prominence include the Philippines, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Taiwan, Korea (South and North) and the entire west coast of Africa. Some of those locations come with fairly serious travel and safety warnings.

But like it’s always been — if there are great waves in these locations, intrepid surfers will somehow find a way to get there.

Looking at excellent summer surf conditions on the immediate forecast. Winds will tend from the west, which means most mornings will be clean right along our coastline and there are a number of good swells brewing in Bass Strait that will deliver excellent reef waves throughout the weekend and beyond. An extended run of good surf for all of us.
