- OLIVIA SHYING and RUSTY WOODGER

A MAN has been charged with 30 offences in connection to a string of alleged aggravated burglaries and robberies throughout Geelong.

Isaiha Jones, 20, fronted Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday for a brief hearing after being arrested at a Bell Post Hill home the day before.

Police allege Mr Jones committed a series of break-ins and armed robberies over a threeweek period in the Geelong and Surf Coast region.

He has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, nine counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of aggravated burglary, burglary, attempted burglary, multiple counts of theft of motor car and attempted theft of motor car.

Mr Jones was also charged with theft from motor car and attempted theft from motor car, as well as theft.

Geelong Tasking and Crime Intervention Taskforce Senior Sergeant Stephen Pucar has urged the community to lock their cars and houses.

He said many offenders were gaining access to unlocked cars and finding garage remotes that gave them easy access to homes.

“A significant number of vehicles and homes that were involved were unlocked,” he said.

“Offenders try door handles to both cars and homes and are often opportunistic in their offending.

“Please minimise your risk of loss by locking all doors and windows, and considering where keys to homes and vehicles along with remotes to garages are stored.”

Sen-Sgt Pucar said the community could help prevent crime by adhering to those messages, locking their cars and remaining vigilant.

Another man has been charged in connection with the alleged offences.

Mr Jones made no application for bail and has been remanded in custody until May 15.

Investigations are ongoing.
