Barn doors a heritage feature

- NICOLE MAYNE

THE former St Leonards post office has been listed for sale after an award-winning renovation that put a stylish modern stamp on the property.

The circa 1920 triplefronted weatherboard building has been transformed into a chic coastal home.

The quality of the redesign earned 1350 Murradoc Rd, St Leonards, the Housing Industry Association’s best Victorian renovation gong in 2016.

A dry stone feature wall in the bathroom, kitchen and reclaimed barn doors that conceal display shelves are features that impressed judges.

Neville Richards, St Leonards, agent Luke Campbell is calling for expressions of interest in the four-bedroom house, which has a price guide of $1.05 million to $1.15 million.

Mr Campbell said the vendors had done an amazing job reinventing the building.

“It was originally the post office and they have done a major renovation. They’ve kept the facade but it’s really like a new house,” he said.

“They are very clever and they designed it with their builder, Coastyle Building Solutions.”

He said while the interior was modern, the vendors had incorporated elements of the original building like the floorboards which have been turned into a feature panel behind the television.

A light-filled, open-plan living room with a raked ceiling is the centrepiece of the house.

The kitchen has a hardwood bench and butler’s pantry and a Vintec wine fridge.

A second loungeroom has a Harman surround sound system, ideal for a movie room or children’s play area.

There are two bathrooms and a timber-clad double garage.

A heritage citation states it was originally built on the St Leonards foreshore and relocated to Murradoc Rd in 1939.
