Borough shows hub vision
DESIGNS for the $5.75m Queenscliff Hub have been submitted for planning approval, moving the facility closer to construction.
The project is set to create a new information and cultural centre by combining the visitor information centre, Queenscliff Library and historical museum under one roof.
The plans include more space for the three organisations, a flexible auditorium for presentations and events, the retention of the muchloved heritage facade of the library, and accessible public toilet facilities. Borough of Queenscliffe CEO Martin Gill said the proposed design responded to a broad range of community needs.
“Submitting the design for planning approval is a major step in the progression of this project, and we’re excited to share the design with our community,” he said.
The design, produced by Kerstin Thompson Architects, was created using feedback from three rounds of community consultation, as well as input from the tenant organisations and the Victorian Government Architect.
The project will create a larger, more accessible space that helps each tenant organisation continue to deliver its programs and services, according to the council.
A total of $5.75m has been allocated to the Borough of Queenscliffe for construction of the hub, with funding coming from state and federal governments.
Formal planning notification is expected to occur in coming weeks.
An online information session on the project will be held on August 10 at 1pm.
