CRICKET BRAWL RULING ANGER:
QUEENSCLIFF Cricket Club has slammed the initial findings from the BPCA over an ugly brawl that ended a match on Saturday and left a player reportedly concussed.
The BPCA executive met on Wednesday afternoon to look over submissions from Queenscliff and opponent Portarlington before releasing initial findings.
Queenscliff pledged to appeal the decision and a tribunal hearing has been set for Monday but Portarlington was yet to see any findings late on Wednesday night.
BPCA senior vice-president Denis Bilston led the investigation into the incident and declined to comment until the tribunal hearing was complete when contacted by the Geelong Advertiser.
Queenscliff also declined to reveal the nature of the findings but spent Wednesday evening in a club meeting livid with the determinations.
“The Queenscliff Cricket Club are disappointed with the decision handed down by the BPCA hearing,” the club wrote in a statement.
“We consider the punishment as unfair.
“We will be appealing the decision.”
But after 8pm on Wednesday, Portarlington president Peter Evans told the Geelong Advertiser he hadn’t seen any findings from the league.
He said he had been still sending in statements to the BPCA on Wednesday afternoon.
Asked whether players would be available for selection on Saturday before the tribunal hearing, Bilston again declined to comment.
The fight during the Dgrade match left Queenscliff batsman Michael Farrell reportedly concussed after allegedly being kicked in the head and is the subject of a police investigation.
