MAD MAX HOUSE FOR SALE

ICONIC BEACH HOUSE UP FOR SALE

- NICOLE MAYNE

A PIECE of Australian film history has hit the market with Boost Juice founder Janine Allis selling her family’s iconic Mad Max beach house in Fairhaven.

The Shark Tank and Survivor star has listed the famous beachfront home with a $10.8m-$11.8m price tag.

The luxury pad, at 310 Great Ocean Road, featured as Max Rockatansky’s hide-out in the original 1979 Mad Max movie and is one of only two properties in Fairhaven on the beach side of the Great Ocean Road.

Once just a shack in the dunes, it’s since been transformed into a five-bedroom, six-bathroom hideaway with a swimming pool, direct beach access and spectacular views over Fairhaven Beach and Split Point lighthouse.

Ms Allis said the family had made the difficult decision to sell the much-loved coastal retreat, and their $20m Toorak base, to move to NSW’s northern beaches.

She said the house had been a sanity saver over the past 20 years as her business career took off but the time had come to move on.

“It’s just such a special place,” she said.

“You have everything on your doorstep — you see dolphins and whales out the front and you get these incredible views and you can walk to cafes and restaurants and it’s close to nippers.

“One son’s still not talking to us because I think he had visions of his kids going to nippers.”

She purchased the 3000sq m property for $1.1m in 2000 but said the family originally rented it for five years before Boost started because they loved it but couldn’t afford to buy it.

Despite a major renovation five years ago that introduced natural timber cladding and a solid concrete interior, she said it would forever be known as the Mad Max house.

“Even today when I’m trying to get a tradie over he says ‘where is it?’ and I say ‘you

know the Mad Max house?’,” she said.

Great Ocean Properties, Aireys Inlet agent Marty Maher said the house had arguably the best position on Victoria’s west coast.

“This property has that rare trilogy of features where you have got great views, great privacy and private beach access,” Mr Maher said.

“That is something so special and it can never be compromised because it’s got Crown land on three sides.”

The tri-level home offers stunning vistas from the open-plan living area and

main bedroom suite on the upper level.

Multiple decks provide options for summer entertaining, while a private, northfacing swimming pool is on hand should you tire of the beach.

Kids have the run of the two lower levels, where there are four further bedrooms, three of them with ensuites, a media room and a huge games room with a kitchenette.

“It’s one of those properties where someone will buy it and will never leave,” Mr Maher said.
