WE SHOW OUR WORTH BY THE CARE WE GIVE

-

OVER the last few years I have come across more and more people living in their cars.

I often chat with these people to see if I can help.

In many cases they are not living this way by choice.

Often they are unemployed or have had health issues.

They cannot even afford to pay for a minimal/basic private rental or get approval from the real estate application process.

Many consider themselves lucky as they have a car to sleep in; many don’t have anything.

As for crisis accommodation, even this can prove to be unaffordable if available.

Other options are overloaded and are able to help only the most desperate of people.

Often many people are just a few steps away from a job loss, low Centrelink payments or a diagnosis of ill health from a crisis.

The question to ask is: “Why has this been allowed to occur?”

A very costly royal inquiry into the neglect in this area is not required. A solution is not too hard to implement.

We show our worth by the care we give to the less fortunate.

This is actually happening now in the Geelong region and is an ever-growing issue.
