Skipper’s faith is rewarded
It was vintage Finch on Wednesday as he targeted the straight boundaries with the full face of the bat.
“When I’m playing at my best I’m hitting down the ground quite a bit,” he said.
“If you go back to that first ball I faced (a lineball LBW shout) I fell across a bit and looked to whip it outside leg stump. When I’m accessing down the ground it means my weight is in a pretty good spot.
“Once I got into my innings I felt I was moving a lot better, my feet were moving, my intent was there and it was nice to get a few out of the middle.”
Finch was able to block out the social media abuse he received — but said those who targeted his wife Amy had crossed the line.
“I obviously would’ve loved to have got some more runs (previously), but I was never doubting that I would never get runs again,” he said.
“Just having the ability to take a step back and reassess my own game and go out there with a clear mind … it was great to have the support of the selectors.
“I know that I’ve done it before and I’m not a bad player.”
