Titans keen to remain in the pink

- JOSH BARNES

THE lights are set to stay on at Armstrong Creek, with the club planning to hold another day-night fixture next season.

The Titans became the first club in decades to hold a local cricket match under lights last month when the A-grade clash with Wallington began at 3.30pm and played until after dusk.

A pink ball was used for the game and although the unseasonably cool February weather meant the win for Armstrong Creek came in chilly conditions, club president Barry Mills said the idea was a success.

“The good thing for people watching was that you could see the pink ball all the time,” he said.

“We are keen to do it again. I think Wallington were pretty happy with it — they weren’t happy with the outcome but they were happy to play under lights.

“When (opening bowler Brandon Ross) was bowling I could see it. When he bowls with the red ball I can’t see it. For me, I said we should use the pink ball all the time.”

The Titans used the day as a celebration for club sponsors and Mills said the club would be keen to build a future day-night match around another function. He said the club was aiming to play it either the final game before or first game after Christmas next season.
