Warriors promise attack in effort to break through

- LACHIE YOUNG

NORTH Geelong will be aiming for its first win of the season on Saturday when it hosts bottomof-the-table Werribee City at Elcho Park.

The Warriors have had two draws to kick start the NPL2 season, with the matches a contrast in styles.

A 3-3 result against Northcote City in Round 1 was followed by a goalless affair with

Moreland Zebras, but coach Zeljko Gagula said North Geelong was keen to play an attacking style against Werribee City.

“Without seeing them and knowing exactly what they are like, we are going to go out with the same sort of endeavour we would like to each and every game, which is based on looking to attack as much as possible,” Gagula said.

“Keeping a clean sheet is wonderful but at the end of the day you want to be able to put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.

“We are definitely not a negative side, everything is based on us wanting to go forward and create and put the ball in the back of the net.

“We have trained really well during the week … and we are going to go out there and look for a win, so hopefully things fall into place and we get all three points.”

Werribee City has suffered two losses — including a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Kingston City in Round 1 — but Gagula said it was important not to take any opposition lightly.

“If you don’t come with the intent and the right attitude these games can easily be lost,” he said.

“The two draws we have had have been pretty decent and we probably should have beaten Northcote in all honesty, but we had four debutants and it showed great character to come from behind.

“The Zebras game was probably the same and we probably should have been up 2-0 at halftime but at the end we had to defend really well to keep a clean sheet.

“All in all we have been decent, but it would have been nice to have a win.”

The Warriors and Werribee City match kicks off at 4pm.
