Rooms to bring in players

- LACHIE YOUNG

CORIO Soccer Club will benefit from an upgrade to its change rooms at Hume Reserve.

Geelong-based Rendine Constructions will oversee the works, having been awarded the contract from the City of Greater Geelong to design and build a modular pavilion.

The existing change rooms will be demolished as part of the upgrade, making way for two sets of gender-neutral change rooms and amenities that will meet Football Victoria standards.

Corio Soccer Club president Mario Gregorio said the new facility would help attract even more participants at the northern suburbs club.

“The new facilities will make the Corio Soccer Club more attractive for all stakeholders,” Gregorio said.

“In particular, it will help the club’s drive to attract more females to the club. It will also provide a big advantage to our men’s State League 1 side with the new gym, meeting and rehab rooms.

“As a club we are delighted to see the pavilion project progressing and extremely thankful for the support of City of Greater Geelong councillors and officers.”

Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the new pavilion would also include referee change rooms, a first-aid room, social spaces, a kitchen, a meeting room and storage space. “This fully funded council project will provide a best practice community sport facility for the growing number of soccer players in the northern suburbs,” she said.

The Moolap-based firm is expected to start work on the facility in coming months, with a scheduled completion date of June next year.
