‘Pharmacy in a car’: drug bust shock

- RUSTY WOODGER

A FORMER public service worker in Geelong has been warned she will either die or wind up in jail if she does not kick her crippling drug habit.

Suzi Krasic, 33, was issued the blunt warning on Tuesday as she faced court over a sizeable drug bust in Newtown late last year.

The former Australian Bureau of Statistics employee was caught with a variety of illicit substances when police searched her car on Marnock Road about 3am on December 16.

Geelong Magistrates Court heard the haul included more than 7g of ice, along with GHB, ketamine, cannabis and diazepam tablets.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Jacki Davis said the variety of drugs was akin to a supermarket, while magistrate Ann McGarvie described it as “a whole pharmacy in the car”.

Krasic was sentenced on Tuesday to a good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to drug possession.

The court heard Krasic was with a man when police searched her vehicle, with drugs seized from various locations within the car. She made admissions to possessing most of the drugs but claimed she did not realise she “had so much”, Constable Davis said.

Krasic told police she was a daily ice user, while her reason for having GHB was for “fun times”.

Defence lawyer Ben von Einem said his client had been abstinent from drugs for eight years before she relapsed in late 2019 and eventually quit her job in June last year.

The court heard Krasic had never previously been in trouble with the law, while she was now making efforts to overcome her drug issues.

“She’s an addict. She needs help more than anything,” Mr von Einem said.

“But if she doesn’t stop, and she knows it, she’s going to die or go to jail.”

Ms McGarvie agreed with that assessment, stating Krasic would end up in prison if she did not seek help and stop using drugs.

“There’s no doubt about it,” she said. “And she’s at great risk of dying from an overdose.”

Krasic avoided a conviction as she was put on a good behaviour bond for 12 months, with a condition that she engage in drug and alcohol counselling.
