Military not the uniform dress code for funeral

- STEPHEN DRILL

THE Queen is set to ban military uniforms at her husband Philip’s funeral to avoid a fight with princes Harry and Andrew.

The move came as Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, released a new picture of Prince Philip with seven of his greatgrandchildren to drag headlines away from the bubbling controversy.

Harry, an Afghanistan war veteran who saw frontline action, was unlikely to have been allowed to wear his uniform. after being stripped of his military titles during Megxit.

And Andrew has caused headaches for the Navy, demanding he wear the uniform of an admiral despite being dumped from royal duties because of his friendship with late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The Queen has suggested all men wear suits and ties, nipping the flashpoint in the bud.

“It’s the most eloquent solution to the problem,” a military source told The Sun.

But the decision has taken some of the shine from Prince Philip’s funeral plans. The World War II hero had rejected a state funeral for a simpler affair at Windsor Castle.

But Philip, who was tipped to head the British Navy before his career was cut short when the Queen ascended the throne, had included a military theme in his personally approved funeral plan.

Meanwhile, Kate has followed through on reports she will act as peacemaker among the estranged royals with the release of a photograph she took of Prince Philip in 2018.

“The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh surrounded by seven of their great-grandchildren at Balmoral Castle in 2018,” the caption on Kate and Prince William’s Instagram account said.
