Courtside class in old Torquay

- NICOLE MAYNE

AN award-winning, resortstyle home just moments from the beach has hit the market in Torquay.

The modern, five-bedroom showstopper could be a game-changer for buyers, with its own floodlit tennis court and a rare 1289sq m double block.

The property, at 62-64 Cowrie Road, is expected to net $3.95m-$4.2m, making it one of the most expensive to be listed in the town. One Agency Torquay agent Shaun O’Callaghan said the finishes at the two-storey house were arguably some of the best on the Surf Coast.

“There’s no surprises why this home has been an awardwinning property and featured in so many magazines, the connection between indoor and outdoor is exceptional,” Mr O’Callaghan said.

“One of the huge advantages of this property is that it’s split across two titles.

“The tennis court is incredible, but if you’re not the sporting type, it’s also a really versatile space, be it a private kids’ playground or an additional entertaining area and it’s on its own title.”

Voluminous living spaces are a standout feature of the U-shaped design, which incorporates polished concrete floors, floating timber staircase, feature concrete fireplace and custom glass doors framing views of the synthetic grass tennis court.

The previous owners worked with MG Design and Building to create the family home on the site of an old beach shack.

The project was recognised by the Building Designers Association of Victoria when it was completed in 2016.

It last sold in July 2019 for $3.3m.

A large open-plan living area on the ground floor sets the scene for entertaining, with a high-end kitchen featuring a 5m stone bench, butler’s pantry, Subzero fridge, Euro wine fridge and Wolf dual oven. Sliding doors link to an outdoor area with a built-in barbecue and wine fridge.

There’s a second living area and guest bedroom on the ground floor, with four further bedrooms upstairs, including the main bedroom suite with its own balcony.
