Forward future bright: Danger

- JOSH BARNES

INJURED star Patrick Dangerfield says he can see signs that Geelong’s fabled big three up forward can terrorise defences for years to come.

All three of Tom Hawkins, Jeremy Cameron and Gary Rohan have received glowing praise this week after they combined for 58 disposals, 21 marks, 42 score involvements and 15 goals to rip through the Richmond defence on Friday night in a 63-point win.

Watching from the stands, Dangerfield (pictured) noticed Geelong’s willingness to switch the ball to the open side and attack allowed the forwards to get to work, a plan that could help kick another big score against St Kilda this Friday.

“I don’t think we necessarily moved the ball quicker, we just moved it with more flow from different parts of the ground,” he told SEN.

“We changed direction a bit better and when there was opportunity to get it in there we had a contest ahead of the ball, which obviously Hawk always provides and Jez on the ground is as good as our small forwards so he is a bit of a double threat as a key forward.

“It was enjoyable watching those three forwards go to work ahead of the ball.

“They are starting to build some serious chemistry and we hope they will be a handful for the rest of the season and seasons to come.”

Sidelined after surgery on a syndesmosis injury suffered against North Melbourne in Round 5, Dangerfield said he was eyeing a return “within a month”, if the physios let him.

He has begun running on an anti-gravity treadmill to aid his recovery, with a return in the weeks around Geelong’s Round 12 bye a chance.

“The bye probably buys an extra few weeks, I would like to play before then but I am realistic about that. I just don’t tell the physios that,” he said.

“I would like to return within the month, whether they let me do that or not we will see.”
