PERRY SET TO RAISE BAR

- OLIVIA SHYING

VOCAL powerhouse Stellar Perry is taking over the Piano Bar for three “emotional and intimate” shows this month.

Geelong’s Perry was a finalist in reality show The Voice last year under the guidance of coach Delta Goodrem.

But Perry exited the show in an uncertain climate, with coronavirus lockdown putting a temporary halt to live music and devastating the industry.

Perry, who was born in Tasmania, moved home for three months to care for her father, which she says helped her explore her creativity and identity as an artist.

“It’s been a weird ride to have people recognising you even with a mask on — I think it’s the mullet,” Perry said.

“But it’s been kind of easy because I was exactly who I am on TV, so people are not really surprised when they meet me.

“I feel like I’ve got a whole new bunch of friends.”

Perry said the Piano Bar series — in Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat — would be among her first official Victorian gigs.

“There’s nothing like the connection of a live show,” she said.

“(During lockdown) I only had people on Instagram or Facebook and a lot of people aren’t on those platforms … so I’m trying to connect to them through the live shows.”

Perry will perform alongside fellow The Voice graduate Alex Weybury and friend Josh DeAraugo.

“I really enjoy engaging and having dialogue (with fans), so the gig will be intimate and have ‘getting to know you’ banter,” she said.

“It will be a Stellar Perry wear-yourheart-on-your-sleeve experience”.

Piano Bar owner Andy Pobjoy said he was delighted to be hosting a variety of live gigs at the bar’s new Little Malop Street venue after a challenging 2020. Perry will perform at Piano Bar Geelong on May 16, Bendigo on May 20 and Ballarat on May 23. To book, visit pianobar.com.au
