A belief results will come for Cats

- BETH DAVIS

SUPERCATS women’s coach Matthew Paton is taking each game week by week as his team strives to find a way to win games.

Starting the season 0-2 on the road, the Supercats notched their first win in Round 3 at home with a dominant display over Waverley.

They dropped two games in Round 4 — losing to Nunawading at home and Waverley on the road — giving them a 1-4 record coming in to this weekend’s match-up against the Melbourne Tigers.

“We had a lot of respect for both the teams we played on the weekend, we knew that neither of them were going to be easy conquests,” Paton said.

“The two games were obviously close — it’s not like we’re that far off the mark, we just have to refine some things to turn close losses into close victories.

“One thing to take away is that we need to be playing our best basketball in order to be competitive in this league.”

Asked about his expectations for the games ahead and where the team should be looking to sit mid-season, Paton has said he was taking a different approach.

“My goal is more qualitative, in that I want to make sure we are continuing to improve our standard of play, continuing to minimise our errors — as long we’re ticking those boxes, I feel like our form will eventually translate into more positive results,” he said.

With Sarah O’Neill (pictured) still in doubt after rolling an ankle, the depth of the roster will be tested against some familiar names.

Former Supercats players Isabella and Charlotte Brancatisano, along with Zitina Aokuso, will return to the Geelong Arena in Tigers colours.

The trio were an integral part of the 2019 Supercats team that fell to Kilsyth in the NBL1 championship game.
