SCOTT TO BE GOOD NEWS FOR GEELONG WEST

- JOSH BARNES

GEELONG West prime mover Scott Frangos is tracking well to lead the Giants in a winnable contest against St Albans on Saturday.

The 2-2 Giants will head into the clash eyeing another victory and a chance to get ahead of the win-loss ledger, with ball magnet Frangos a key to those hopes.

The star midfielder had averaged 29.3 possessions a game on the TAC Stat Tracker before a knock to his knee brought him down in the first quarter of a heavy loss to Colac in Round 4.

“(Frangos was) unable to play any part of the game but is responding to treatment and is a chance to play this week,” Giants coach Greg Mellor said.

“(It was) fairly innocuous but swelled up. Hopefully he will be right.”

Frangos gathered just two possessions before he was forced to watch the 61-point defeat from the bench.

The Tigers ran rampant in the first quarter of that match. The Giants missed the composure of Frangos, who gathered 40 disposals the week before against

Bell Park.

Jayden Symes will play his 100th match for the Giants in the clash against the Supersaints.

The injury news was not so positive for Lara skipper Matt Spence, who looks likely to sit out another week.

The defender was knocked out in a sickening collision with Leopold’s Mitch Patten, which resulted in a threematch suspension for the

Lion.

After the mid-air collision, Spence was flipped around and landed on his head and neck area.

He was stretchered from the field in the first quarter of the loss to Leopold.

Spence became the first person to sit out the mandatory 12-day concussion protocol since AFL Barwon adopted the measure and would have been set to return to bolster the Lara defence against St Joseph’s on Saturday.

But the Cats are set to take a cautious approach with their spiritual leader and he is likely to turn his attention to a Round 6 meeting with South Barwon as his return.

“He will probably miss this week at this stage,” Lara coach Shayne Stone said on Wednesday.
