MAKING STRIDES IN STUDENT HEALTH

-

PRIMARY school students put their foot down yesterday … and then repeated the process as part of the 22nd National Walk Safely to School Day.

The annual event raises awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking — especially to and from school — can provide for the long-term wellbeing of children.

Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking has also been found to have a favourable impact on their cognitive and academic performance. The day also encourages primary school-aged children to build walking into their daily routine.

Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and 2008 Olympic skeet shooter Natalia Stocki (nee Rahman) helped promote the day at Nazereth

Primary School, walking to school with daughters Adriana, 8, and Mila, 6, while also encouraging families to make it a regular habit.
