Tiger knock takes longer toll on Dahlhaus

- TOBY PRIME

GEELONG forward Luke Dahlhaus is still overcoming a heavy knock from last week’s win over Richmond.

Dahlhaus had been cleared of injury by the Cats during the week but he was a late withdrawal from Friday night’s game against St Kilda.

He looked in pain following a big hit against the Tigers, wincing in pain on the sidelines. He did not play any part in the second half.

Geelong assistant coach Matthew Scarlett said Dahlhaus took a knock to his ribs

and hoped he would be ready for next week’s match against Gold Coast.

“‘Dahl copped an injury, sort of in his ribs — the back area — last week,” Scarlett told K rock.

Jordan Clark was brought into the team as a late replacement.

Scarlett said Clark was working on his defensive game to nail down a spot in the senior side.

“His first year, he played some really good footy in our back half,” he said.

“Then through a few little concerns with his game … he was playing on some really good forwards so he’s been working on his defensive craft.

“Obviously he attacks really well, he can mark the footy and he’s got great speed, but he needs to work a little bit on his defensive craft and being able to defend those dangerous small forwards.

“As a midfielder, he’s been exposed a little bit playing inside over the pre-season. We really think he’s going to develop into a really good inside midfielder that can transition out from stoppage and get away and use his speed.

“That’s where we think he’s going to end up when he’s a complete player. He’s still working on his game and his craft.

“It’s going to take a bit of time but we certainly think he’s going to get there.”
