Grand Drysdale vision

- HARRISON TIPPET

A DRYSDALE property owner’s Grand Designs-worthy dream home proposal has been unveiled, setting a “benchmark for high-quality, architecturally designed ruralresidential developments”.

A planning application lodged with the City of Greater Geelong revealed the $1.5m plans to build on a 12,490sq m plot of land on Settlement Road, with the house footprint nudging 1000sq m.

The sprawling home is set to include five bedrooms — all but one including walk-in wardrobes — two sizeable outdoor entertaining areas, large combined kitchen, living and dining room, office-library, a “man cave” with a bar and large wine cellar, tennis and basketball court, pool, spa, gym and yoga studio, six-person sauna, and 375sq m shed.

Planning documents noted the considerable design quality of the plans, with the large house carefully planned to blend with the surrounding area.

“As demonstrated in the series of perspective drawings prepared by NAA Studio, the proposed dwelling is an exemplary design response that will sit comfortably within the Murradoc Hill landscape and sets a benchmark for highquality, architecturally designed rural-residential developments within greater Geelong,” the documents noted. “The new dwelling, tennis court and outbuilding are not located on top of ridge-line or prominent hill face.

“Rather, it has been designed to nestle into the topography, as indicated by the minimal cut and fill required and designed to blend in with the natural environment.”

It sets out to use materials such as Australian hardwood timber cladding, dry stone walling and bluestone paving.
