Man jailed for attack on girl, woman
A GEELONG man who hit an eight-year-old girl in the face, after strangling and bodyslamming his mother-in-law, has been jailed.
Levi Livesley, 30, was sentenced at Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday to 12 months in prison, along with a community correction order.
Livesley has been in custody since April when he was arrested over a shocking display of violence after he returned to a Corio home while drunk.
The concreter (pictured) initially attacked his partner, before turning on the woman’s mother when she tried to intervene.
Livesley repeatedly strangled his mother-in-law who was left gasping for air and believing she would die.
He also slammed her into a kitchen bench and the floor while threatening to kill her.
During the incident, an eight-year-old girl screamed for Livesley to stop, before he turned around and smacked her to the face.
Magistrate Ann McGarvie said the offending was “very serious”.
It came as she raised concerns about a psychological report that indicated Livesley had minimised his actions.
Ms McGarvie told Livesley he was “entirely responsible” for the violence that took place. “I accept that you were affected by alcohol, but that shouldn’t be a factor in relation to the decisions that you make regarding family violence,” she said.
Livesley has already served 140 days of pre-sentence detention.
Upon his release, he must complete an 18-month correction order that involves treatment for alcohol abuse and a men’s behaviour change program.
