WEDDED BLISS – AT LAST
ARMSTRONG Creek newlyweds Mikki-lee
Roberts and Mathew
Hinde are increasingly convinced that best-laid plans are meant to be broken.
The couple had planned to wed in front of 110 guests in January this year, but cancelled their big day in mid2020 amid pandemic uncertainty.
Weeks later, Ms
Roberts learned she was pregnant with the couple’s first child. Lenny was born in March and the couple moved their Rocklea Farm wedding to December.
But coronavirus lockdowns left them concerned they would have to cancel a second time.
“Having our wedding on hold and not happening was not working for us,” Ms Roberts said.
The couple’s wedding planner suggested they could get married as soon as the state’s sixth lockdown ended.
On Wednesday, when the lifting of regional Victoria’s lockdown was announced, Ms Roberts was told Friday was an available wedding date.
“It was our seven-year anniversary and I thought, ‘Do we just want to do it?’,” Ms Roberts said.
“I asked my partner and he replied, ‘Yes’.”
The couple were suddenly faced with the huge task of ensuring all their vendors were available at short notice.
“It’s been a bit hectic – emailing back and forth,” Ms Roberts said. “The girl who was doing my nails opened at 5am this morning and I got my spray tan early too.”
The seamstress worked on the bride’s dress throughout Thursday before a final fitting on the wedding day.
The couple married at 1pm, in front of immediate family and their closest friends, while others tuned in online.
“I’m beyond excited,” Ms
Roberts said, before the wedding.
“I’m not even sad that it’s not going to be what we originally dreamt of.
“We are crazy, adventurous, spontaneous people and this is us in a nutshell.”
Ms Roberts, now Mrs Hinde, said the date, six months since Lenny’s birth, was extremely meaningful.
“I just think that this it what it was always meant to be,” she said. “We get to mark our seven-year anniversary, keep that date forever, and we get to be married.”
The couple was married by celebrant Nicole Penning, who oversaw two weddings on Friday.
