Festival is back to keep our seniors busy
THE Geelong Seniors Festival returns next month with a full program of digital events and at-home activities to enjoy.
The month-long event, starting on Friday, is the largest community celebration for seniors in regional Victoria and a major partner of the statewide Victorian Seniors Festival.
More than 30 online events are on offer as part of the diverse program, with each activity presented by a local community group, business or organisation.
Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said this year’s theme, Reimagined: Keepin’ On, was fitting as celebrations moved online again.
“As we continue to navigate the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions, it’s important we don’t miss out on the opportunities to connect with others and explore something new in our day,” she said. “The Geelong Seniors Festival is a great example of an event community members can enjoy at low or no cost that by design helps to improve the health and wellbeing of participants by encouraging active living and building social connections – all key focus areas of our community plan.”
Ms Asher encouraged community members aged 55 and over to take time to look through this year’s program. The festival runs until October 31, with activities ranging from virtual performances and lessons to skill-building workshops.
Highlights include a free virtual recipe book celebrating multicultural food and an hour of virtual musical entertainment at the Songs to Remember concert.
