Teen’s time to shine

-

THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Maya Rees will step out alongside her 15 Premier league teammates on Saturday for her first official match at the region’s highest level.

Drysdale will take on Queenscliff at home and Rees has received the call up.

And according to selector John Monahan, the news was well received.

“Maya was really excited to get her opportunity, so are we as a club,” Monahan said.

Rees will replace Steven Cox, who is unavailable, and will lead for experienced

Drysdale skipper John Fry. “Maya had a goal and has worked really hard to achieve it, she started the season really well in the second side and truly deserves her selection,” Monahan said.

Drysdale will be keen to bounce back from a narrow loss to Eastern Park and register its second lot of match points, while Queenscliff is gunning for three on the trot.

Bareena enjoyed the weekend off and will return to the greens looking for its first win of the season.

The Badgers will enter their round 3 encounter unchanged, hosting the undefeated Ocean Grove.

The Grovers, on the other hand, have Brian Smith returning to the line-up after saying “I do” last week. Smith will play third for young Ocean Grove star Brad Pavey.

Top side Eastern Park hosts fourth-placed City of Geelong in what looms as match of the round.

After two games the Parkers are yet to drop any points, clean sweeping both opponents in an impressive start to their campaign.

“We feel we have an even spread across four rinks,” president Adam Martin said. “Although we got all rinks up against Drysdale, it was a tough game. The last 16 ends overall the difference.”

City of Geelong claimed its first scalp a fortnight ago against Belmont and will hope to capitalise on that winning formula.

In other matches, Lara hosts Bell Post Hill, while Highton should be too strong at home against Belmont as it aims to put its second win on the board.
