TONS OF TALENT IN RIPPER ROUND

- JOSH BARNES

A STUNNING six-hitting barrage from Darcy Hewitt threatened spectators at Little River but it was a star batter facing his old side who made waves in the BPCA at the weekend.

Having defected from Portarlington to Armstrong Creek over the off-season, Cameron Chisholm put the Demons to the sword with a brilliant century.

Each week the Addy will compile best XIs from across the grades in the BPCA.

Here is the best of the best from round 2.

PATRICK MCKENNA (Ocean Grove) 61

With a platform set to launch from, Grubbers skipper McKenna got to work and belted 61 from 66 balls to power his side towards a comfortable win over St Leonards.

CAMERON CHISHOLM (Armstrong Creek) 106 not out

If there was any doubt about how Chisholm would take on his old side in Portarlington, those concerns were quickly put to bed by Chisholm. He ripped the Demons apart with an unbeaten 106 from 111 balls in a brutal display.

JORDI WITHERS (Jan Juc) 51 not out

The talented Shark kept the scoreboard ticking to support Ben Grinter, belting his 51 not out in only 45 balls.

DARCY HEWITT (Barwon Heads) 110

It is rare for a player batting at five to make a century in a BPCA one-dayer and it is as rare for it to happen in such quick time. Hewitt punished Little River, belting an astonishing 12 sixes to make 110 off 57 balls. He was eventually run out, and it is a wonder he bothered to run between the wickets at all.

CHARLIE HURST (wk) (Barwon Heads) 40 and three catches

A tidy day all round for Hurst, who put his side on track for a decent score with his 40 before Hewitt’s fireworks. He also pouched three catches and assisted a run out.

LEIGH HEAZLEWOOD (Inverleigh) 4 and 4-23

It has been a perfect start in A1 for the Kookaburras and Heazlewood found his stride on the weekend, taking the key scalp of Kane Pickering in his haul.

GRACE JONES (Armstrong Creek) 4-26

Arguably Geelong’s finest cricketing prospect, Jones (above) enjoyed her best A-grade performance of what promises to be a long and fruitful career. The leggie took four of the last five wickets of the match to put Portarlington away.

DAVINDER SINGH (Wallington) 4-9

It took only five overs for Singh to burn through Newcomb’s lower order and post the excellent figures of five overs, two maidens, 4-9.

NICKY SMITH (Jan Juc) 4-13

The win over Collendina turned into a cake walk for Jan Juc, with Smith at his best in a near-perfect effort with the ball. His four wickets took him eight overs as he put the game away.
