Feast of champion drivers for opener
AUSTRALIAN champions from Sprintcar, Super Sedan, Wingless and Lightning Sprint divisions have entered for competition at the opening of Eastern Creek Speedway on Saturday night.
It’s one of the best line-ups of driving talent ever assembled in Australian speedway.
“We really do have very strong fields for what will be a very special night. These drivers are some of the best in the world and they all will be starting off on neutral ground,” copromoter John Kelly said.
National Sprintcar champion Jamie Veal heads over 60 nominations received by Sprintcar Association of NSW officials. Multi Australian titleholders Max Dumesny and Robbie Farr are in the field.
Dumesny embarks on his final, emotional season after a magnificent three-decade career, while Farr is the owner of 94 Sydney wins after starting his career in 1989 at the former Parramatta City Raceway.
Australian Super Sedan champion Matt Pascoe brings a wealth of experience at national title level to Eastern Creek Speedway.
Earlier this year at Tasmania’s Latrobe Speedway, Pascoe won the National Super Sedan Championship for the fourth time.
Wingless Sprintcar entries feature the appearance of Kyle Mock, who took out the 2019-20 season national title.
National Lightning Sprints’ No.1 AJ McTaggart will be chasing victory in the 26th running of the division’s prestigious Gold Cup event.
Teenager Gabbie Elbourne won a talent quest to sing the national anthem, while the venue will be opened by Steve Raymond, whose speedway announcing career traces back to the 1960s at the Sydney Showground Speedway, and long-time motorsport chaplain, the Reverend Garry Coleman.
