Lots to look forward to: Lowther

- OLLIE NASH

WITH Geelong’s fourth AFLW season drawing to a close and Dan Lowther’s first season in charge in the books, the coach says there is plenty to look forward to next season.

A strong first quarter was followed by a slow second half from the Cats on Friday night, losing to GWS by 18 points at GMHBA Stadium.

“Whole new list, new coaching staff, new approach to our program (this year) which have all been positive,” Lowther said post-match.

“The first five or six weeks showed some really good growth in our group. Now it’s about consistency and bringing those players along for the ride and making sure we stay the course and we buy into change, which they have.

“Now it’s just making sure we can try to complement our group with other elements which will keep us in games for longer periods and make us more consistent.”

The Cats went into quartertime seven-point leaders and held a slender one-point lead at the main break but were overwhelmed in the second half, and kicked only one goal after the main break.

The Cats failed to score in the final quarter while GWS added 2.1, with Geelong slipping to its eighth loss of the season 8.5 (53) to 5.5 (35).

Lowther said that there were good signs for his side early in the contest.

“Disappointing, but happy with the improvement from last week against the Saints,” he said.

“We were really keen on getting some inside 50s this week and we did early.

“Good first quarter but then, as we’ve tended to do over the last few weeks, our second quarter kind of faded away around our contest work, didn’t get the ball forward enough.

“Couldn’t fault endeavour and their throughout the game.” their fight
