ALL THAT JAZZ COMING TO PALAIS
THE Palais Theatre Geelong will be treated to some razzle dazzle when Footlight Productions brings the musical Chicago to its stage.
Set in the 1920s, the musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, who is a simple housewife with ambition of vaudeville stardom until she murders her lover and ends up in prison.
Singing, dancing and all that jazz abound as Roxie tries to fool the public, media and her cellmate, Velma
Kelly, with her criminal lawyer Billy Flynn.
Producer Peter Wills said the cast and crew had an “overwhelming feeling” of excitement in the lead-up to the show.
“There is such a buzz among the cast and crew, and we can’t wait to get this show on stage in front of an audience,” Mr Wills said.
“It’s a fabulous show and we are so thrilled to have the opportunity to stage it, particularly after the past two years when all our theatres have been quiet. It’s a great fun show to welcome audiences back to theatre.”
He said the company was “very grateful” to have the opportunity to “bring some joy back to audiences in Geelong”.
“It is hard to express the feeling of standing on stage in front of an appreciative audience and having your work acknowledged in such a powerful way,” Mr Wills said.
“The whole team have created a stunning show of which we are very proud.
“What audiences will see on stage is a testament to their dedication and unwavering determination to get the show on.”
Chicago will open at the Palais Theatre for a threeweek season of 10 shows from March 25.
