The Addy appoints new editor
NADJA Fleet has been appointed the new editor of the Geelong Advertiser.
Current editor Elise Potter will join News Corp’s editorial transformation team in June, in a strategy role exploring newsrooms of the future.
Ms Fleet, the Sunshine Coast Daily’s editor since February 2020, will take up her new role on May 30, bringing a passion for championing her local community.
“The Geelong Advertiser has served its proud community for nearly two centuries,” she said. “To work for a masthead with such a strong history and connection to its readers is a responsibility that I won’t take lightly.
“Having worked for News Corp for nearly 15 years has allowed me to collect experiences and meet amazing people in Darwin, Adelaide and the Sunshine Coast.
“But now it’s time to start a new chapter in Geelong, a city that is very close to my family.”
Ms Fleet’s career includes roles as editor-in-chief of Messenger and head of news at The Advertiser, in South Australia, and as chief-of-staff of the NT News in Darwin.
Ms Potter said: “It has been an absolute career highlight to have led this team of talented, passionate journalists on such a beloved masthead and I am proud of all we have achieved over one of the most historic news periods in our lifetime.
“Nadja’s experience and love of local area will be a terrific asset to the Addy team as we continue to celebrate the Geelong region and advocate on behalf of our loyal readers and 21,000-plus current digital subscribers.”
Ms Fleet will be the 26th editor in the Addy’s 181-year history.
