DEAKIN COPS EMAIL SERVE

- GRACE BALDWIN

DEAKIN University has come under fire for an email sent to students about the arrest of lecturer Dr Adam Brown.

Chen Cheng, 35, was allegedly murdered by Dr Brown at their Croydon North home.

An email sent by Deakin referred to the arrest of Dr Brown as an “incident”, sparking outrage at the flippancy of the word.

“As you may already know, a Deakin staff member, Dr Adam Brown, has been charged after an incident on the weekend,” the email read.

Prominent activist and lawyer Tarang Chawla said “the ongoing killing of women should never be reduced to just an ‘incident’”.

Commenting on Mr Chawla’s post, disability activist and author Carly Findlay said “the language around this murder is awful”.

“Do better Deakin,” Ms Findlay said.
