FORD FALCON RETURN IN YOUR ELECTRIC DREAMS

-

MALCOLM Webster evokes nostalgia for the Ford Falcon (GA, 28/4) and I am the right age to feel that too!

Though the dream of an Australian Falcon Motor Company producing Falcon vehicles using Ford parts and engines is appealing to some of a certain age, this is only realistic if those vehicles are electric.

Australia is lagging somewhat, but finance company Bloomberg is predicting 677 million zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs) being sold by the end of 2040, with many countries and manufacturers announcing targets to end production of internal combustion engines, and the large European market moving towards ZEVs only from 2035.

Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO says, “I am delighted to see the pace of change in Europe – challenging our entire industry to build better, cleaner and more digital vehicles.

“Ford is all-in and moving fast to meet the demand in Europe and around the globe.”

Stuart Rowley, chair, Ford of Europe agrees, “Our march toward an all-electric future is an absolute necessity for Ford to meet the mobility needs of customers across a transforming Europe.

“It’s also about the pressing need for greater care of our planet, making a positive contribution to society and reducing emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.”

Any fantasies of a new Ford Falcon will need to be electric dreams.
