1748 OLYMPE DE GOUGES French revolutionary
Gouges was a playwright and political activist who challenged the practice of male authority and the notion of male-female inequality in her Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen. She was executed during the French Reign of Terror.

Russian composer Tchaikovsky was the first
Russian composer to make a lasting impression internationally. His most popular and well known compositions include Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
1909 EDWIN LAND American inventor
Best known as the founder of the Polaroid Corporation, Land invented inexpensive filters for polarising light, a practical system of in-camera instant photography. His Polaroid instant camera first went on sale in 1948.
1919 EVA PERON Argentine First Lady
As the wife of Argentine President Juan Domingo Peron, Eva Peron served as First Lady from 1946 until her death in 1952. Shortly before her death from cancer at 33, Peron was given the title Spiritual Leader of the Nation by the Argentine Congress.
1932 DEREK TAYLOR English publicist
Sometimes referred to as the “fifth Beatle”, Taylor is best known for his role as publicist for the Beatles, with whom he worked in 1964 and again from 1968 to 1970. Between 1964 and 1968, he was the publicist for US bands including Byrds, and the Beach Boys.
1943 PETER CAREY Australian author
Carey has won the Miles Franklin Award three times. He is also one of only five writers to have won the Booker Prize twice, the first in 1998 for Oscar and Lucinda and again in 2001 for True History of the Kelly Gang.
