LOCALS GET HOME AT JUC

- JOSH BARNES

COMPETING on home surf helped four of our brightest young surfers claim wins in the Victorian Junior Surfing Titles over the weekend, led by Jan Juc’s Emily McGettigan.

Held at Jan Juc, the Surf Coast dominated the round 3 of the titles, with the finals held on Sunday.

McGettigan triumphed in the under-18 girls competition, with her score of 15.23 in the final besting Sandy Point’s Eva Bassed, who scored 14.07.

It was an all-local top-four in the under-16 boys event, with Max Bassett of Barwon Heads taking the title, ahead of Nalu Belyea (Jan Juc), Leroy Filer (Jan Juc) and Harry Farrer (Barwon Heads).

Jan Juc’s Chloe Muscroft saluted in the under-14 girls competition, with Torquay’s Dune Pruvot taking third place.

The home conditions worked wonders in the under-14 boys competition as a Jan Juc trio took the honours. Jarvis Barrow finished in first, with Remy Filer and Jack Lindsay claiming the other spots on the podium.
