Cash pledges flow for local schools

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

FOUR Corangamite schools have been promised a combined $139,000 for upgrades and extra equipment if an Albanese Labor government is elected on May 21.

Under the pledge, Grovedale College would receive $50,000 for an outdoor basketball court and Mirripoa Primary School, in Mount Duneed, $40,000 for football oval fencing.

Another $39,210 would go to Surf Coast Secondary College in Torquay for outdoor fitness equipment and $9800 to Drysdale Primary School for classroom IT.

Corangamite MP Libby Coker said Labor wanted to support local schools to have better facilities.

“A basketball court will help to ensure the next generation of Grovedale College players can train on a quality court that gives them the best chance to enjoy and excel at the sport,” Ms Coker said. “Mirripoa Primary School, as a relatively new school, is still establishing its sporting fields and needs fencing around the school oval.

“Surf Coast Secondary College needs the outdoor equipment as part of its fitness training programs.

“Drysdale Primary School needs this IT equipment so that students and teachers have the very best learning tools in the classroom.”
