ST Mary’s Sporting Club is mourning the loss of respected football coach David McGlynn (above).

Mr McGlynn died suddenly last week and is survived by partner Dinny.

Club president Scott Hosking said Mr McGlynn joined the club as co-coach of the under-18s boys’ team this year after moving to the region from Western Australia.

In a statement on social media, the club said: “Our club is deeply saddened at the sudden passing of David McGlynn late last week.

“Dave took on the role of co-coaching our U18s boys’ team this year and has guided them through pre-season training and the early rounds of the season. He was well -respected by that squad and the club for his commitment to developing those young men.

“Our deepest condolences to Dinny and his family at this challenging time.”

Mr Hosking said Mr McGlynn was a “lovely person”.

“He was really, really wellrespected in a short period of time and he was held in such high regard,” he said.

The club plans to hold a tribute at a later date.
