TUNES BRING CHEER TO CHILDREN

- TAMARA MCDONALD

THE memory of a beloved little girl is being honoured through music helping sick kids.

Chorus Music Therapy Clinic has partnered with Sharing Tulli’s Smile Fund to bring music therapy to the children’s ward at Geelong hospital.

Tulli Seabert died aged 8 in 2019 after living with multiple health issues including a heart condition, epilepsy and an underdeveloped brain.

She spent a lot of time as a patient in the Geelong hospital children’s ward.

When at home or at the Royal Children’s Hospital, she loved engaging in music therapy.

Tulli’s mum Bek Seabert, of Wandana Heights, said this was the first music therapy program at the Geelong hospital children’s ward.

“Tulli was non-verbal but she had a smile that

expressed so much,” she said.

Music brought Tulli many smiles, even when she was very ill.

Mrs Seabert and her

husband set up Sharing Tulli’s Smile Fund in 2021, which funds the music therapy program through community donations.

The first session was held mid last year but Covid forced the program to pause until recently.

Michelle Waller, director of

Chorus Music Therapy Clinic in Geelong, was Tulli’s music therapist.

She said Tulli always lit up when she heard music.

Ms Waller said music therapy, which could involve singing and playing instruments, helped enhance a child’s quality of life.
