Rep test for flying Falcons

- OLLIE NASH

GEELONG Falcons coach Paul Corrigan says he is looking forward to a handful of his players gaining valuable experience when they pull on the Vic Country guernsey this weekend.

Jhye Clark (pictured), Olivier Northam, Oscar Murdoch and Will Parkhouse will represent Vic Country on Sunday at Ikon Park against a “Young Guns” team featuring the best Victorian players who turn 19 this year.

Among them will be fellow Falcon Euriah Hollard, who also featured in the side when it played Vic Metro last weekend in game one of the Colgate Young Guns Series.

“They get a bit of exposure as 19-year-olds leading into that mid-season draft . . . which will be awesome,” Corrigan said. “Really good for our (Vic) Country guys, too, to obviously get a game against ‘Young Guns’ and then leading into our trials for Country selection in the Queen’s Birthday weekend and leading into nationals later in the year.”

Corrigan, who is coach of the Vic Country side, said a squad would trial in the coming weeks before the national championships, which will run through June and July.

“We’re probably looking to bring in 50 or so players around the country regions and then play two trial games obviously against Vic Metro,” he said.

Ted Clohesy would have featured in the Vic Country side on Sunday, however, he is still recovering from a medial ligament injury in his knee.

Corrigan said he would likely return after the NAB League recess period.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, May 28, against the Oakleigh Chargers.
