A TRUCK driver has been charged with causing a crash that killed a Bellbrae woman.

Peter Ferris, 45, from Thornhill Park, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing serious injury following the three-car smash.

Police allege a truck and two cars collided at the corner of Moores and Anglesea roads, Bellbrae, about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

“A passenger in one of the cars, a 65-year-old Bellbrae woman, sadly died at the scene,” police said.

“The driver of that car, a 63year-old Bellbrae woman, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“The driver of the other car involved, a 49-year-old Bellbrae man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Mr Ferris was charged and refused to be transferred from his cells to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday.

His lawyer told the court his client had significant injuries, including back pain, as a result of the major collision.

Mr Ferris is due to appear back in court in September.
