JOHN Calvert (GA, 7/5) fails to realise that nuclear power is completely impractica­l for the many reasons outlined in my previous letter.

His championin­g of coal is not only bad for the environmen­t but more costly when used to generate electricit­y. The most expensive

wholesale price for electricit­y is in NSW and Queensland, where black coal is the main power source, and cheapest in Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria, where renewables are much more widely used.

Where does John think there is “vehement public opposition” to emission targets.
