Saints switch goes smoothly for driven Enright

- JOSH BARNES

THE commute may have taken some adjusting to but wearing St Kilda colours has not been a big leap for Corey Enright.

A champion of Geelong’s golden era, Enright (pictured) won three premierships, two best-and-fairests and earned six All-Australian blazers in an outstanding 332-game career.

Enright then stepped into coaching for five seasons after his 2016 retirement.

This year he has swapped the blue and white for red, black and white as a Saints assistant coach.

The drive from his Highton home into the office at Mooplain rabbin was a small shock for Enright after living only minutes from GMHBA Stadium for two decades, but everything else has been smooth in a different club.

“I have been pretty fortunate to be able to be within 20, 30 minutes to work in the last 20 years really,” he said.

“I feel like I can’t really com

too much, I have plenty of hours still up my sleeve because it has been so convenient for the last 20 years.

“I think once you sort of leave one environment and move, and make the call to get into your new environment you just jump head-first into that and make sure you are doing the best you can in the new role.

“For me, it was pretty easy really, I was fully invested in what I need to do and it wasn’t really probably as difficult as I thought it might have been.”

On the hunt for a new club for the first time since he was drafted to Geelong in late 1999, Enright saw St Kilda as a club on the rise with a defence he could work with.

Watching them up close for the first time, he was immediately impressed with star midfielder Jack Sinclair and underrated defensive role player Callum Wilkie.

Enright is sure to get some looks and share some words with his old colleagues on Saturday afternoon at Marvel Stadium, but he is locked in to beating the Cats.

“Obviously it will be a little bit different this week coming up against the Cats and no doubt it will be interesting on the game day, but I am looking forward to what we can do as a footy club,” he said.
