‘FRESH’ PATTY FULL OF BEANS
Cats star in attack mode after putting injuries behind him
GEELONG superstar Patrick Dangerfield has declared he is feeling fresh and ready to attack the rest of the season after shaking off a persistent calf injury.
The Cats midfielder returned from the niggle in the win against the Giants last week and hit the ground running with 28 disposals, six marks and five clearances in the 53point victory.
Speaking before Geelong’s main training session on Friday, Dangerfield said he expected to play out the rest of the season after recovering from the bleeding in his calf. “On the weekend I felt fresh, it’s one of those things you can’t fake,” he said.
“This competition is ruthless, the speed and intensity is unique and you’ve got to be up for that fight.
“I think I’ve clocked mine (rest) in now, so ideally it’s play right through.”
Geelong faces fellow top-eight side St Kilda in a crucial clash at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, with both sides on five wins from the opening eight rounds.
Skipper Joel Selwood will return after missing last week with a thigh injury, while ruck Rhys Stanley will be paired with Mark Blicavs to battle Saints duo Rowan Marshall and Paddy Ryder. Dangerfield did not shy from the importance of the contest, and said both clubs would be desperate for the win. “Everyone understands at the moment that Melbourne are the benchmark, but it’s pretty even after that and we’re in that pack,” he said. “St Kilda have had a good season as well, they play Marvel very well, so we’ll need to be at our best to compete and win the game. “It’s critical for us to make sure we’re ticking off these wins.”
