BRETT’S JEWELLERS

GEELONG’S HANDCRAFTED JEWELLERY SPECIALISTS

-

Describe Brett’s Jewellers’ extensive history in the jewellery industry.

Brett’s Jewellers began in 1989, when Brett Wood opened a small atelier workshop in the heart of Geelong. With positive word of mouth keeping Brett and two jewellers busy, a larger premise was needed, prompting the move to an open-style workshop in Pakington Street.

In 2016, the business moved to a boutique-style premise further along the street. The boutique, led by Brett’s son George, offers a comprehensive onsite workshop with four jewellers, two gemologists, a diamond technologist and valuer.

What does Brett’s Jewellers specialise in?

We specialise in high-quality handmade and custom engagement rings, wedding rings, anniversary jewellery and bespoke creations, all of which are designed and made to last generations.

We give our clients the opportunity to be part of the entire process, from initial consultation and design, through to the selection of the gemstones that will be the centrepiece in the final creation.

What styles of wedding and engagement rings have been popular recently?

We’re seeing a trend back towards the fitted wedding ring, but with more of a focus on alternative gemstones such as “salt and pepper” diamonds and coloured gemstones like sapphires, spinel or coloured diamonds.

The tiara or crown style has also been popular, especially with more of a boho vibe. As white gold has become more expensive, platinum is the new go-to for brides and grooms who want a white metal for their forever rings.

What sets Brett’s Jewellers apart?

Our experienced jewellers and gemologists adore collaborating with customers to create magical pieces of jewellery. We involve the customer in every step of the design process so they gain a unique understanding of how their piece is made.

There is never any pressure for our customers to spend more money than they have budgeted for as we respect your wishes. Having an onsite workshop allows us to have stringent quality control, fast revisions if needed and quick repairs. Our friendly team love meeting new people, and are on hand to answer any questions you might have.

What features should couples look for to ensure they’re getting the best quality ring?

The quality and design of the mount or ring, as well as how it is made, plays a massive role in the longevity of your forever ring. Things to look for are the width and thickness of the band and the setting that houses the main gemstone. Too fine and it won’t last, too thick and chunky and it loses the finesse and elegance that a quality piece of jewellery should have.

Also consider the gemstone quality – especially how well it is cut. A poorly cut gemstone will cause it to look dull and dim whereas a properly proportioned and well-cut gem will be bright and lustrous.

How does Brett’s Jewellers source its diamonds, coloured gemstones and gold?

We source our gemstones locally and internationally, working closely with our gem merchants and suppliers to ensure only ethical materials are used. All of our diamonds and coloured gems are hand selected by our onsite gemologists and diamond technologist. Our gold is sourced through an Australian supplier who primarily uses recycled and re-refined precious metals, including Australian gold.

What extra services do you provide to maintain customers’ rings?

Brett’s Jewellers pieces come with a lifetime manufacturing guarantee and our jewellery is made to an extremely high standard. We also offer complimentary cleaning and polishing of all our jewellery and can provide express repairs for those needing their special pieces looked after urgently.

We offer in-house valuations under the strict guidelines of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers as well as Q-report Jewellery Insurance.
