Your wedding day is first and foremost about celebrating your commitment to your partner, but it’s also your day to shine.

Planning your special day can be a stressful and busy time, which is all the more reason to ensure you’re also making time to keep on top of your beauty routine so your skin is at its glowing best when you walk down the aisle.

Blush Bar director Emma McFarlane says it’s important to remember the basics in the lead up to your wedding day, starting with hydration.

“It’s easy to forget when you have a million things going on, but your skin will thank you for it,” Emma says.

“Try and drink two litres of water a day to avoid your skin drying out before your big day.”

Good skincare requires a regular routine – and now is the time to invest in quality products. From serums to intense moisturisers to a daily SPF, Emma says there are many products to treat your skin to give your skin the care it needs.

“Investing in a good skincare system is so important,” Emma says.

“A night serum can totally transform your skin. Make sure to consult an expert however – you don’t want to try anything new just before the big day to ensure there aren’t any reactions.

“And of course an SPF each morning is an absolute must.”

Blush Bar senior bridal artist Kimberley Firns says focusing on your skin should become a priority at least six months before the wedding day, particularly if you don’t already have a regular skincare routine.

Even if you already have a daily routine, Kimberley says you might want to up it in the weeks leading up to your big day.

“You will want to think about a daily skin regime at least six months prior to your wedding if you haven’t started a regime before,” she says.

“However if you are currently on a skin step program, ensure vigilance every day and night from at least three months out to have your skin looking its best.”

One of the biggest questions Kimberley is asked by brides-to-be is what products are the best to invest in to help achieve that dreamy bridal glow.

“A good cleanser to rid your skin of daily stresses is always important for any skin routine,” Kimberley says.

“An exfoliant once a week is also important. When it comes to serums, vitamin C and a hyaluronic serum will plump and hydrate, while an eye-cream is important to prep your delicate skin under the eye area.”
