Logies honour for Bert
TV legend Bert Newton’s extraordinary career has been recognised with a Logies award named in his honour.
The introduction of the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter award was announced at a Gold Coast event on Sunday.
Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Karl Stefanovic, Melissa Leong, Ray Meagher, Sonia Kruger and Tom Gleeson were also named as nominees for the TV Week Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality.
Newton’s widow, Patti, said his family was delighted with the recognition, following his death in October last year.
“We are so thrilled Bert is being recognised and will be part of the Logies every year moving forward,’’ Patti said.
“It was such a big part of his career and he just loved it, so I know he would be pretty pleased.”
Newton won four Gold Logies during his celebrated career and was a member of the Logies Hall of Fame.
He hosted the awards on 20 occasions, including a 14year run from 1967-80.
Blake, Leong, Kruger and Gleeson will also vie for the Bert Newtown Award with
Carrie Bickmore and Leigh Sales.
The Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor sees Guy Pearce nominated with Bernard Curry, Hugo Weaving, Meagher, Rodger Corser and Stephen Peacocke.

Married At First Sight’s love doctor Alessandra Rampolla is a surprise nominee in the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent alongside Carlos Sanson Jr, Matt Evans, Melanie Bracewell,
Tony Armstrong and Will Lodder.
Some of Australia’s most admired actors have landed nominations in the Most Outstanding categories.
Most Outstanding Actor sees Weaving, Jamie Dornan, Richard Roxburgh, Sam Reid and Scott Ryan nominated and the Most Outstanding
Actress award drawing Torv, Claudia Karvan, Mailman, Isla Fisher and Miranda Otto.
The 2022 TV Week Logie Awards, to screen on Channel 9, will be held on the Gold Coast on June 19 after a twoyear Covid hiatus.
