VILLAGE MUST BE BUILT WHERE IT CAN DO GOOD
THE athletes village has its primary use for four weeks. But how will it be repurposed?
Student accommodation, cheap affordable housing or more likely expensive inner-city apartments that lack parking facilities.
The cost of developing in the CBD means these will be totally uneconomically viable to supply cheap housing.
Building where land is cheaper and having access to build without traffic and resident interruptions means building costs are much lower, allowing more social houses being built for the same money.
The reason to stuff up our CBD is because of transport for athletes. Can’t we supply buses or are athletes too precious?
Our 30 years of transport failures, road, rail, buses and taxis are now coming home to roost.
The housing for the Commonwealth Games must be in the northern suburbs or similar, where affordable and social housing is needed.
I would have thought that a Labor government would know that is where social housing is in demand. But then Richard Marles has done nothing to effectively change the society he is responsible for.
So it is all hush hush from our elected council on potential sites.
The same lack of consultation, transparency and dictatorial governance that is destroying our democracy.
If confidence works both ways, it is impossible to have confidence in a council who accepts that we are treated like “mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed manure”.
