SAFETY STREETS AHEAD AT MIRRIPOA WITH NEW CROSSING

-

A NEW pedestrian crossing in Mount Duneed is helping Mirripoa Primary School pupils get to school safely.

Pupils Jazmyn, Mason, Ramsay and Charlie will be using the crossing on National Walk Safely to School Day on Friday.

The new crossing was delivered by the

City of Greater Geelong and funded through the Transport Accident

Commission’s (TAC) local government grant program. TAC chief executive Joe Calafiore urged all road users to remain vigilant.

“Children are extremely vulnerable and stand little chance of avoiding injury or death when hit by a vehicle, which is why it is so important for all of us to stay vigilant when on or around roads,” he said.

Roads and Road Safety Minister Ben

Carroll said the state government continued to prioritise pedestrian safety by building safer roads and exploring safer technologies at intersections.

“Walking is a great way to stay healthy and get around, and it’s great to see initiatives like Walk Safely to School Day promoting active transport to young Victorians,” Mr Carroll said.
