VOTERS who contract Covid between now and election day can cast their ballots by phone.

The Australian Election Commission said eligible voters with Covid who had not voted could access “a telephone voting solution”.

But anyone who tested positive to Covid before May 17 must have applied for a postal vote.

“There will be a telephone voting solution available but that won’t apply for people who tested positive prior to 6pm (on Tuesday) – it has limited eligibility criteria,” Australian Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers said.

“Once postal vote applications close (on Tuesday) evening, we’ll have information available on the website for people who need to, and are eligible to, register for telephone voting.”

As of Tuesday, 19,675 prepoll votes had been cast in the Corangamite electorate and 20,837 in Corio.

In Corangamite, 22,208 applications for postal votes have been lodged, with 11,259 returned by May 17.

In Corio, 18,908 postal voting applications were lodged with 10,377 returned by May 17.

Enrolled voters in the Corio electorate sit at 112,756.

In the Corangamite electorate 112,651 voters are enrolled.
