Claims of threats and thefts

- NAOMI NEILSON

A WOMAN charged with a “broad compass of offending”, including allegedly making threats to kill and impersonating officers, is accused of stealing from a Corio home on Tuesday night while one of its residents watched on from the bedroom.

Corio woman Olivia Kennedy, 43, was remanded on Tuesday night and appeared before the Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges of aggravated burglary and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Magistrate Michelle Hodgson found Ms Kennedy’s personal circumstances and support services did not alleviate the risk that she would endanger the community. Her bail application was refused.

“Suffice to say, this is very serious offending. It’s aggravated burglary, and the charge in and of itself is very serious,” Ms Hodgson told Ms Kennedy.

The court heard that about 7pm on Tuesday, Ms Kennedy walked into a home a few streets from an address at which she resided and allegedly stole an electric scooter.

CCTV footage captured her leaving with it.

Ms Kennedy, who indicated to the court that she planned to contest the charges, claimed the scooter was offered to her by one of the residents.

One of the three residents was in his room at the time of the alleged offending and assumed one of his housemates had returned when he heard someone in the house.

Although he did not have a relationship with Ms Kennedy before the offending, he told police he recognised her.

The court heard Ms Kennedy had several outstanding matters before the court, including a number of shop theft charges, aggravated burglary, theft of vehicle, drug possession, making a threat to kill and impersonating an officer.

“The case is not a weak one based on the evidence before me,” Ms Hodgson said.

“There are a lot of matters I need to take into account.

“I think there is a risk, based on your previous history, that you will endanger the welfare of another person … you may also fail to appear in relation to these matters.”

Ms Kennedy was refused bail and will be remanded until May 25.
